The console wars are heating up again. For a long time it was Nintendo on the low-end with the Wii, Microsoft's Xbox 360 took the middle ground and Sony was in the high-end with its Blu-ray packing PS3. With the introduction of the new lower cost PS3 Slim, Microsoft is now ready to slash prices on its console. There have been rumors and leaked ads pointing to a price cut for the Xbox 360 Elite to bring it to the $299 price currently occupied by the 120GB PS3 Slim and the older 80GB PS3. Microsoft officially announced today that the Xbox 360 Elite would be getting a $100 price cut. Microsoft also says that the Xbox 360 Pro console will get a price cut to $249.99 until the supplies of the discontinued console run out. The Xbox 360 Arcade will live on at a price of $199.99. Microsoft also reminds shoppers that any Xbox console bought today will be able to work with the cool Project Natal controller-free gaming of the future. “With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s already time to start looking for entertainment and gifts that everyone will enjoy,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of strategy and business development for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp. “If you’re looking for deep experiences that don’t require deep pockets, now is the time to purchase an Xbox 360. We’ve got the best games, a vast library of TV shows and movies, new music experiences, more ways to connect friends and family, and so much more on the horizon including ‘Project Natal’ — no controller required.”
