It's obvious if your a fanboy and a proud owner of the device you will praise it and defend Apples honor if someone says anything negative about it. But does that make you a fanatic and a fool for doing so - most likely yes. Here is why - First off if you paid over $200 for any cell phone you are already a fool but thats another story and second if you are easily brainwashed into believing the iphone is the best smart phone when its obviously falls behind in vital features then you are a drone. An easily programmable person - naive and gullible. Let me explain now that I have your attention. A flashy smart phone that does multi touch and looks good doesn't mean it functions great. The key to a great smart phone is how well it functions not just how it well it looks period, although both at the same time would be ideal. So now I'm going to point out what gets easily overlooked due to the hype factor. The Blackberry is still the smart phone apple is still trying to learn from and catch up to in regard to some serious and important features. As an example of this is the new feature of cut + paste that has been lacking in the past 3 generations of the iphone and which Blackberry has had as a default feature for awhile now. So let's focus on why the iphone is still weak as a smart phone, despite how pretty it looks and feels. Here in no particular order are 10 things Apple won't tell you or choose not to point out. - But I will.
1- The iphone can't open zipped file attachments, even though they contain files the iphone can display, Blackberry does this very well and there is no excuse for the iphone not being able to do it as well.
2- The security of the iphone still isn’t on par with Blackberry smart phones it falls way short to be considered a business device.
3.- Encryption for iphone 3GS is weak which is a no no for security and Blackberry still has the upper hand in this area. Which is not a big surprise that government officials including the President use Blackberries over the iphone hands down.
4- iPhone's new remote wipe feature is useful, but for someone who’s targeting an enterprise phone specifically, that remote wipe can only take place if the iphone is on a network. If I steal someone’s phone and I have the goal of stealing information on that phone, the first thing I’m going to do is pop the SIM card out.” For remote-wiping on a Blackberry, the customer can opt for an emergency feature where their phone automatically erases all of its data if it’s been off the network for a set amount of time — think of it as the cellular equivalent of the nuclear option. Even if the SIM is removed, the phone would still wipe itself, something the iphone can't yet do.
5-The iphone battery is still not easily removable which means you would have to send it in to an Apple dealer to get it replaced once it dies out. This is by far the worst thing about the iphone because they then charge you for the new battery including service fee. And on top of that they now have your phone full of private data and contacts that are now vulnerable to theft should you be so lucky to deal with a disgruntled employee. A major security issue. With the Blackberry and even Palm Pre you just buy the battery and replace it yourself and not risk strangers looking at your private data, simple. A major Apple design flaw in my opinion.
6.- Yet another iphone security flaw -> The handset snaps a cached screenshot of your most recent action whenever the Home button is pressed. A tech-savvy thief could potentially access a pilfered iPhone’s cache and see previously written text messages, password entries and so forth.
7- You can now delete individual text messages with the 3.0 upgrade which raises the question - what? It couldn't be done before the upgrade? thats embarrassing and it still can't delete a single missed call individually. Wow these are basic features that should be their by default. To be the best smart phone you have to get the basic features out of the way first not do it backwards.
8- Still no MMS feature just promises of it arriving soon. We are now in 3rd generation of the iphone and it's still missing MMS - really?
9- You can't easily manage iPhone's through a central console wirelessly, even though you can do some management (profiles and remote wipe) via e-mail, the Web, and/or Exchange 2007. IT pros rightfully complain that Apple essentially forces them to use a local PC as a management workstation and physically connect users' iPhones to it.
10- Apple's iphone still are not able to run multiple applications at once. That's a feature other smart-phones have long had and one that the Palm Pre has more recently demonstrated can be done smoothly and elegantly. It's a feature iPhone owners may long for as they download and run more and more applications on their phones.
Ok so there you have it, I listed 10 top weaknesses not readily known but left out many others as not to get iphone users depressed, That is not the point of this article. Some of these weaknesses will be fixed with the new 3.0 update but there are many that still wont. However I just wanted to point out - Apple is an innovator in regard to multi touch and cool case designs for their iPhones but the phone itself is not perfect at all, far from it. you must know this - The iphone with it's latest release proves the iphone you had before wasn't as good as you thought it was. The new software 3.0 upgrade and the new iphone G [s] only reveal what was missing from the older model in the first place, which was a lot. This is usually the case with all phones in general. However, It's always funny when people hype up a product for bragging right only to then look like idiots when the new version comes along with new features and fixes only to reveal their older version wasn't really that great at all.;-)
A lesson that we should all be use to by now since Tech Gadgets cool factor doesn't last long due to newer better version released faster and more often than most people change their underwear. Don't get me wrong the iPhone is a very cool gadget but it by no means the best one in the market. It still have a lot of security and other important features it needs to improve upon. The iphone G [s] is a move in the right direction but its merely a small bump in the improvement department. Although the iPhone does things some other phones have yet to do, other smart phones like Palm Pre and Blackberry also do things the iPhone still can't. Which is why you will see some people with more than one phone. But whats funny is in China you have knockoffs that haves multiple features, run Adobe Flash and have dual sim cards all for a reasonable price under $200 and they run and do more than the originals.
So with that said I'm tired of listening to people brag about their iPhone as if its the best phone in the world when its obviously not. It's missing vital, basic, and important features along with hardware capabilities that other phones already have. So how can it be the best -- fanboys wake up the phone is the best in your mind not in the real world. the new 3.0 update is proof that before it was available your phone was weak and just got a little stronger, but is still not strong enough. There is still a lot left to improve upon and if you are saying it's the best looking, well thats a matter of taste which Palm Pre and Blackberry users will easily debate. However, what good is a cool looking phone if it can't even get basic features to work right. And stop the iPhone wannabe chant every time a new phone comes out with better features - it makes you look stupid considering their are phones that do things the iPhone still can't do. Many features Apple is adding to the iPhone are already available on rival phones. When it comes to adding multimedia messaging, turn-by-turn directions or a camera that can record video, Apple is playing catch-up. No where near being the best - good sure, great maybe but definitely not the best. Enough said.
