Get excited, potential purchasers of Nvidia's Shield handheld gaming device. Nvidia has announced a new shipping date for the Shield as of this morning, and it's unlikely that the project will hit more snags between now and the new date, July 31. Nvidia's Android-themed handheld was originally supposed to launch on June 27. However, Nvidia pulled the plug at the last minute, citing an unspecified mechanical issue with the device. "Some final quality-assurance testing has just turned up a mechanical issue that we're not happy with. So, while we announced last week that SHIELD will go on sale this Thursday, we've taken the hard decision to delay shipping until next month. The issue relates to a third-party mechanical component, and we're working around the clock with the supplier to get it up to our expectations," wrote Nvidia in an email at the time. Nvidia still hasn't specified what said mechanical issue actually was nor has it clarified how the company managed to uncover the issue at one of the last possible moments prior to Shield's initial shipping date.
