More Apple tablet/Netbook rumors surfaced Wednesday as one Apple watcher wonders what the company is doing with all those books. Reuters is reporting that Apple has ordered 10-inch touch screens from Wintek, a contract manufacturer in Taiwan that makes the touch screens used in the iPhone and iPod Touch. The screens are expected to be ready by the third quarter of this year, setting the stage for a possible late 2009 introduction of the long-rumored Apple tablet and/or Netbook. But one interesting possibility for that rumored device comes from longtime Apple writer Andy Ihnatko, who is wondering if Apple has some sort of Kindle clone in mind. Ihnatko told Newsarama that he has heard several times that Apple has been receiving truckloads of books--actual real paper-bound books--at its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. He cautions that this doesn't "rank as high as a rumor, but it's an interesting story that I keep hearing."

AMD rejoices on Nintendo Wii success: 50m "Hollywood" GPUs shipped
By Parm Mann 11th March, 2009
Back when the current-generation console war was taking form, few fancied Nintendo's chances of overthrowing the likes of Microsoft and Sony. Still, here we are, years later, watching the Nintendo Wii continue to fly from store shelves, leaving both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 laying in its wake. Sales of over 45 million Wii consoles are putting smiles on the faces of those at Nintendo, but it's also inducing ear-to-ear grins from those at AMD. As you're not doubt aware, AMD's ATI Hollywood graphics chip resides at the heart of Nintendo's Wii console, and the Sunnyvale, California-based manufacturer has announced that its 50 millionth part has today been shipped to Nintendo.

Hitachi cops to Dell LCD pricing conspiracy
'Bilateral meetings'
By Dan Goodin, 11th March 2009
A Hitachi subsidiary has agreed to a $31m fine for its role in an industry-wide conspiracy to fix the prices of monitors sold to computer and handset manufacturers. Tuesday's guilty plea by Hitachi Displays came the same day the US Justice Department filed a one-count indictment that claimed the Japanese monitor maker actively sought to drive up the price of thin film transistor liquid crystal display monitors sold to Dell. The company admitted its officials attended "bilateral meetings" to discuss and agree upon prices of LCD monitors sold to Dell. Hitachi becomes the fourth maker of LCD monitors to cop to price fixing charges. LG Display in December agreed to pay $400m to settle similar charges, while Sharp has coughed up $120m after also pleading guilty. Chunghwa Picture Tubes, meanwhile, has been ordered to pay $65m.
