AMD rolls out first Phenom IIs

AMD doesn't appear to have said as much itself, but one report claims the chip maker has today formally announced its Phenom II processor. The claim comes from US site EE Times. Since North American journalists are only now climbing out of bed, we imagine the story comes from a pre-briefing given to the title and presumably scheduled to go live today. Early or not, the cat's out of the sack, and - as expected - AMD's latest quad-core desktop offering is a 3GHz chip fabbed at 45nm with a Socket AM3 interconnect and a memory controller capable of connecting to DDR2 and DDR 3 memory, the latter clocked at up to 1333MHz.

REPORTS ABOUND that the latest Macbook might be shipping complete with some grim new flaws to go with that gorgeous new facelift. It seems that the memory controller being used in the motherboards is incredibly finicky about the particular type of DDR3 RAM that's bunged in. Users all across the Apple imperium (should we just say orchard?) are reporting that RAM upgrades from companies such as Crucial and Corsair are causing system instability, lock-ups and crashes after installation.

Australia's Agora Android phone to ship worldwide in January

The world's second Android phone, the Agora, is on the way from Australian-based Kogan, and the device -- which features a full QWERTY keyboard -- will be available globally early next year. Australia-based Kogan Technologies is now accepting pre-orders for the Agora mobile phone -- the second Android phone after HTC's G1 -- with worldwide shipments to start on January 29, 2009. The Kogan Agora will work on networks around the world, and is not restricted to customers in Australia and New Zealand," according to information posted on Kogan's Web site. In contrast to HTC's G1, which is being sold by T-Mobile and Wal-Mart in the US, the Agora is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard.
